There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction. - John Fitzgerald Kennedy
TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Keep doing the same thing and you will keep getting the same results.
Two men were avid moose hunters. Every year they chartered a plane to take them to the Canadian back-country. This year hunting was especially good and in a few days they each bagged a moose. They radioed for their pilot to come back and pick them up.
When the plane arrived, the pilot took one look at the animals and told the hunters they could not take back such a heavy load.
“But we spent all week hunting for these moose,” they protested. “And besides, the pilot we hired last year wasn’t worried about the moose’s weight.”
After much argument, the pilot finally relented and allowed them to load the moose. The heavy plane was only airborne for a few minutes when it lost altitude and crashed into the side of a mountain.
As the men struggled out of the wreckage, one hunter, asked, “Where are we?”
His friend answered, “About a mile farther than we got last year.”
Keep doing the same thing and you will keep getting the same results. It is true of flying and it is true of living.
What is not working well for you? A habit you are trying to break? A relationship with a parent, spouse, child, or friend? What is a source of ongoing frustration? Getting around to that project you keep promising to complete? Never having enough money to pay the bills? Running up against the same old walls at work?
The truth is, if you keep doing the same things you will keep getting the same results. So, if you don’t like the way things are turning out, something must change. Are you reading to try something different? – Steve Goodier
An invincible determination can accomplish almost anything and in this lies the great distinction between great men and little men. - Thomas Fuller
ACTION
A little bear cub was confused about how to walk. “What do I do first?” he asked his mother, “Do I start with my right foot or my left? Or both front feet and then my back feet? Or do I move both feet on one side and then both feet on the other?”
His mother answered, “Just quit thinking and start walking.”
She was wise, for things will happen only after we put aside thinking and talking and start doing.
Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari, said that everyone who has ever taken a shower has an idea. It’s the person who gets out of the shower, dries off and does something about it who makes a difference. Or, as columnist Sydney Harris puts it, “Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.” One of the most important lessons we can learn is to act on a good idea.
Accomplishment is easiest when we work the hardest, and it is hardest when we work the easiest.

THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND COFFEE
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the coffee.
A professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.
He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students responded with a unanimous "yes."
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.
The students laughed.
Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
1."The golf balls are the important things- your God, family, your
children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
2. "The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.
3. "The sand is everything else-the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.
If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
* "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.”
* "Play with your children(and or pets)!”
* "Take time to get medical checkups.”
* "Take your partner out to dinner.”
* "Play another 18.”
* "There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.”
* "Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter.”
* "Set your priorities.”
* "The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.
"It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple cups of coffee with a friend."

Live each day as if your life had just begun. – Goethe
Is this all there is? Is this it? Every one of us asks this question from time to time. We look at our lives and what’s around us with the sense that there’s nothing new and never will be. And because of this mood we probably feel disillusioned or even depressed. We experience the “same old things” in the “same old way.”
Needless to say, this state of mind has nothing to do with what life actually has to offer. It has everything to do with our attitude – with the way we view the world and react to it. If we choose to see things only in shades of gray, that’s what we’re sure to experience. It’s as simple as that.
If on the other hand we approach the day with a sense of wonder and interest, it’s likely that we’ll experience things far differently. If we have a receptive attitude rather than fixed and cynical expectations, we greatly increase our potential to be enthusiastic, inspired, and fulfilled.
In its own special way, each day offers an endless variety of experience, excitement, and opportunity. On every level the world is filled with wonders – it’s all there. In the end, however, it’s up to us. Our attitudes determine what we get out of life.
Today many seem to be the same as yesterday, but you have the opportunity to experience it in an entirely different way.

Winners vs. Losers
A winner is always part of the answer.
A loser is always part of the problem.
A winner always has a plan.
A loser always has an excuse.
A winner says: "Let me do it for you."
A loser says: "That is not my job."
A winner sees an answer for any problem.
A loser sees a problem for any answer.
A winner sees a green near every sand trap.
A loser sees two sand traps near every green.

"When I change the way I look at things, the things I look at change"
When Henry Ward Beecher was a young boy in school, he learned a lesson in self-confidence, which he never forgot. He was called upon to recite in front of the class. He had hardly begun when the teacher interrupted with an emphatic, “NO!” He started over and again the teacher thundered, “NO!” Humiliated, Henry sat down.
The next boy rose to recite and had just begun when the teacher shouted, “NO!” This student, however, kept on with the recitation until he completed it. As he sat down, the teacher responded, “Very good!”
Henry was irritated. “I recited just as he did,” he complained to the teacher.
But the instructor replied, “It is not enough to know your lesson, you must be sure. When you allowed me to stop you, it meant that you were uncertain. If all the world says, ‘NO!’ it is your business to say, ‘YES!’ and prove it.”
The world says, “NO!” in a thousand ways:
“NO! You can’t do that.”
“NO! You are wrong.”
“NO! You are too old.”
“NO! You are too young.”
“NO! You are too weak.”
“NO! It will never work.”
“NO! You don’t have the education.”
“NO! You don’t have the background.”
“NO! You don’t have the money.”
“NO! It can’t be done.”
And each “NO!” you hear has the potential to erode your confidence bit by bit until you quit altogether. Though the world says, “NO!” to you today, will you determine to say, “YES!” and prove it?
You are what you repeatedly do. Excellence is not an event - it is a habit. - Aristotle
"You meet 4 kinds of people on the ocean of life," Mike said.
"Those who drift just go with the flow. The wind and the waves control their speed and direction. The drifter quietly floats along and says, ‘Whatever.'"
"Those who surf are always riding a wave, the next big thing. They stay excited until the wave fades away, then they scan the horizon for something new. Surfers don't usually get anywhere, but they make a lot of noise and put on a good show."
"Those who drown seem to stay in the center of a storm. It doesn't matter how often you rescue them, they'll soon be in another crisis, crying, ‘Help me, save me, it's been the worst week of my life. I don't know what I'm going to do.'"
"Those who sail are navigating toward a fixed point. They counteract the wind and waves by adjusting the rudder and shifting the sails to stay on course. But without an immovable, fixed point in your life, there can be no sailing. There's nothing for you but drift, surf or drown."
- Mike Metzger - Clapham Institute in Annapolis
